Opera studio of the Academy for Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt

modification and renovation

During renovation measures at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts the opera studio and the adjoining library has been reorganised. The project respects the existing buildings and it has been implemented under the objective to achieve a bright and generous space impression. In the western part of the building an extension was added for both areas. The entrances are spatially separated from each other, which allows for a direct access to the opera studio during evening events.

The opera studio is used as a practise room during courses as well as for public performances. A portable stage can be set up flexibly in the space. At the narrow side of the space, black stage elements can be put in front of the wall surfaces, which create a black box at the stage area. A continuous mirror surface on the opposite side extends the limited room visually. In conjunction with the bright colours, a generous and wide impression of space is achieved.

The suspended ceiling of metal fabric generates a special space impression and supports the studio character. The spacing above the metal fabric is used for pendant luminaires and overhead heater.
